Discount Mechanics Explained
1. The Basic Formula
The standard discount calculation is simple:
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount % / 100)
Final Price = Original Price - Discount Amount
2. The Double Discount Trap
Stores often advertise "50% + 50% Off". Does this mean the item is free? No!
This is a sequential discount.
1. First, the 50% is applied to the original price. (₹100 becomes ₹50).
2. Then, the second 50% is applied to the *new* price. (50% of ₹50 is ₹25).
3. Final Price is ₹25. Total discount is actually 75%, not 100%.
Our calculator handles this logic perfectly.
Shopping Tips
- Calculate Unit Price: Sometimes a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" deal is worse than a flat 40% off. Use this tool to find the effective % off.
- Tax Matters: Discounts are usually applied *before* tax. So you pay tax on the discounted price, which saves you even more money.
