Understanding GPA
GPA (Grade Point Average) is a number that represents the average value of the accumulated final grades earned in courses over time. It is the standard metric for academic performance in colleges.
SGPA vs. CGPA
- SGPA (Semester GPA): The weighted average for a single semester or term.
- CGPA (Cumulative GPA): The weighted average of *all* semesters completed so far. This calculator can find your new CGPA if you enter your previous data in the optional section.
How is GPA Calculated?
GPA is a "weighted average". This means courses with more credits (like a 4-credit lab course) count more towards your GPA than a 1-credit elective.
GPA = (Total Grade Points) / (Total Credits)
Where Grade Points = Grade Value × Course Credits.
Grading Scales
4.0 Scale (US/International)
A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0
10.0 Scale (India/Engineering)
O (Outstanding) = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4, F = 0.
